Mitch Liu and his team at SLIVER.tv are on a mission to transform how eSports' 250 million viewers and virtual reality interact. With its open beta launch in August 2016, the eSports entertainment platform received a $6.2 million seed round of equity funding. Building technology for such a global phenomenon merits intellectual property with a similar reach, which is why the technology was filed in the United States first, and under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) later. According to the World Intellectual Property Organization, "filing one international patent application under the PCT, applicants can simultaneously seek protection for an invention in 148 countries throughout the world".

Based in Cupertino, California, SLIVER.tv is a next-generation eSports entertainment platform, founded by successful entrepreneurs led by CEO Mitch Liu. The company launched its industry-defining platform in Fall 2016 with cuttingedge, patented technology designed to provide eSports spectators with a uniquely immersive and cinematic experience in 360° and VR. Backed by toptier Silicon Valley venture capital firms, including DCM Ventures, Sierra Ventures, The VR Fund, Colopl, and more, SLIVER.tv is on a mission to transform the interactive eSports entertainment industry.

Developing IP

SLIVER.tv's multiple virtual camera arrays record video games in fully immersive VR, even if the game does not have support for VR. This "Virtual Camera Array" technology was a key piece of intellectual property APA was able to acquire for SLIVER.tv. The same claims from that patent extend to player and game metadata in VR environments as well as SDK game connector modules for VR playback.

In an interview with VentureBeat, CEO Mitch Liu commented, “that the existing eSports viewing approach from the player’s point-of-view is not necessarily the best perspective for the audience. Our vision is to transform the eSports spectator experience forever". Given this long scope, APA will continue working alongside SLIVER.tv to ensure eSports fans worldwide can view their favorite games and players in an immersive VR format.
